Alexis Taylor Unveils "Paris in the Spring," Featuring Diverse Collaborations and a Vision of Artistic Freedom

Alexis Taylor, a prominent figure in the music scene since 2008 with a thriving solo career alongside his role in Hot Chip, is set to release his latest album, "Paris in the Spring," on March 13. This new work, his seventh under his own name, is a testament to his evolving artistic vision. The album cover art and the music video for the lead single, “Out of Phase,” featuring Lola Kirke and an array of mannequins, have already been released, offering a glimpse into Taylor's distinctive aesthetic.

The creation of "Paris in the Spring" saw Taylor collaborate with a diverse group of talents, including the Avalanches, Étienne de Crécy, Pierre Rousseau from Paradis, Ewan Pearson, Elizabeth White of Pale Blue, and Green Gartside of Scritti Politti. Fittingly, a significant portion of the album was recorded at Nicolas Godin's studio in Paris, a location that evidently infused the project with its titular essence.

Taylor articulated that the core theme of this album revolves around "freedom" – specifically, liberation from constraints, preconceived notions, and genre classifications. He expressed a desire to encourage listeners to engage with music on a deeper level, advocating for a more open and unburdened listening experience. He believes that true musical appreciation emerges when one sheds expectations and allows the sound to speak for itself, challenging the need for explicit categorization.

The tracklist for "Paris in the Spring" includes: 01 Your Only Life, 02 Out of Phase [ft. Lola Kirke], 03 Wild Horses, 04 Colombia, 05 For a Toy, 06 On a Whim [ft. Green Gartside], 07 Faiting by Numbers, 08 mp3s Can Make You Cry, 09 Black Lodge in the Sky.

This album signifies a bold step for Taylor, as he continues to carve out a unique space in contemporary music, inviting audiences to join him in a journey of uninhibited auditory exploration.
