Amazon has confirmed the cessation of its co-operative party title, 'King of Meat,' with servers slated to go offline on April 9, 2026. This decision follows the game's inability to garner the anticipated player base, despite substantial investment and promotional activities.

The game, developed by Glowmade, was launched with considerable fanfare, including a prominent announcement at Gamescom 2024's Opening Night Live Showcase and a high-stakes Mr. Beast special in 2025 that offered a $250,000 prize. However, these efforts did not translate into player engagement, as the game's peak concurrent player count on Steam reached only 320, a stark contrast to Amazon's internal projection of at least 100,000. This underperformance led to undisclosed layoffs at Glowmade just two months post-launch, underscoring the challenges faced in the competitive gaming market.

In light of the game's closure, Amazon has committed to providing full refunds to all players who purchased 'King of Meat.' This move aligns with a broader strategic shift at Amazon, announced in October 2025, to re-evaluate its focus on large-scale game development and massively multiplayer online games, in favor of emerging technologies like its Luna cloud gaming platform and AI-driven content.

The gaming industry, much like life itself, often presents unexpected twists and turns. While 'King of Meat' may not have achieved its ambitious goals, every endeavor offers valuable lessons. It underscores the importance of realistic expectations, agile adaptation, and the unwavering pursuit of innovation. Even in setbacks, there's an opportunity to grow, refine strategies, and move forward with renewed determination, contributing to a vibrant and evolving landscape for digital entertainment.
