The opening night of Coachella 2026 saw an unexpected disruption as EDM sensation Anyma's main-stage performance was called off due to adverse weather. The cancellation, announced shortly before his scheduled midnight slot, underscored a commitment to attendee safety. This incident adds to a series of unforeseen changes at the festival, highlighting the unpredictable nature of large-scale outdoor events and the logistical challenges they present to both performers and organizers.

On Friday evening, as the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival was in full swing, a highly anticipated performance by EDM artist Anyma was abruptly canceled. Anyma, scheduled to perform on the main stage after Sabrina Carpenter's headlining set, was unable to proceed due to severe wind conditions. The festival organizers, in conjunction with Anyma, made the decision to cancel, citing structural concerns with the stage setup caused by the strong winds and emphasizing the paramount importance of audience safety. This announcement was conveyed via Coachella's official Instagram channel, leaving many fans disappointed but understanding of the safety precautions.

Anyma, known for his work as half of the electronic duo Tale of Us, expressed his regret to fans for the last-minute change. In a comment on the festival's Instagram post, he conveyed that every effort had been made to prepare the show, which had been a year in the making. However, he acknowledged that safety must always take precedence and assured fans that efforts were underway to find a resolution. At the time of reporting, there was no immediate information regarding a potential rescheduling of Anyma's performance for later in the weekend or his participation in the second weekend of the festival.

This is not the first instance of a performance cancellation at Coachella 2026. Earlier in the week, punk band Lambrini Girls announced their withdrawal from the festival and postponed their U.S. tour. Their singer, Phoebe Lunny, had sustained a fractured neck and an acute brain injury, rendering her unable to perform. Lunny shared a statement on the band's Instagram, expressing hope for a future opportunity to play at Coachella and a swift recovery. Despite these setbacks, the festival continued with other scheduled acts, including Sabrina Carpenter's headlining set, which featured surprise guest appearances from notable figures like Susan Sarandon, Will Ferrell, Corey Fogelmanis, Samuel L. Jackson, and Sam Elliott. Additionally, the fictional girl group Huntr/x from “KPop Demon Hunters” joined Katseye on the Sahara stage for a special performance of their Oscar-winning song “Golden.”

The events of Coachella's opening weekend serve as a reminder of the complex logistics and inherent risks involved in staging major music festivals. While the cancellations undoubtedly disappointed many attendees, the decisions made prioritize the well-being of both artists and concert-goers. The festival continues with a star-studded lineup, including Justin Bieber and Karol G set to headline on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
