The Oakland Athletics baseball organization has announced that outfielder Denzel Clarke has been designated to the 10-day injured list. This decision follows the diagnosis of a bone bruise in his right foot, necessitating a temporary removal from active play. In a related roster adjustment, the team has brought up Colby Thomas, an outfielder from their Triple-A affiliate in Las Vegas, to fill the vacant spot.

Denzel Clarke, a 25-year-old native of Canada, has appeared in 22 games this season for the Athletics. His current batting average stands at .170, accompanied by six runs batted in and two stolen bases. He has recorded 24 strikeouts and drawn four walks during his time on the field. Clarke's most recent appearance was on Monday, where he was utilized as a defensive replacement in center field during the eighth inning of a 6-4 victory against the Seattle Mariners.

Last year marked Clarke's rookie season, during which he posted a .230 batting average and a .274 on-base percentage over 47 games. His performance included three home runs, eight RBIs, eight doubles, two triples, and six stolen bases, alongside six walks and 61 strikeouts. The Athletics initially drafted Clarke in the fourth round of the 2021 Major League Baseball Draft, recognizing his potential for future contributions to the team.

Colby Thomas, also 25 years old, made his debut in the major leagues in 2025. In 49 games during that season, he hit .225, accumulating six home runs and 19 RBIs. This season, while playing for Triple-A Las Vegas, Thomas has demonstrated strong offensive capabilities, batting .309 with five home runs and 19 RBIs in just 17 games, signaling his readiness for a return to the top level of professional baseball.

This roster change highlights the ongoing challenges baseball teams face with player injuries and the strategic decisions required to maintain competitive performance. The Athletics hope that Clarke's recovery will be swift and that Thomas can provide valuable contributions during his tenure with the major league squad, supporting the team's objectives as the season progresses.
