Iconic actor and comedian Bill Murray is slated to join the BMW Charity Pro-Am in early June, bringing his signature charm to the Upstate event. Celebrated for his memorable portrayal of Carl Spackler in 'Caddyshack' and his regular presence at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Murray's attendance is a major highlight for the tournament. After years of anticipation, organizers are thrilled to have him on board, expecting his participation to significantly boost the event's appeal and its charitable endeavors.

Murray's long-standing connection with golf, notably his frequent appearances at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, makes him a natural fit for the BMW Charity Pro-Am. Max Metcalf, manager of government and community relations for BMW, revealed that securing Murray's presence has been a goal for several years. The stars finally aligned for this year's event, much to the delight of the organizers. Metcalf expressed immense satisfaction, stating that Murray's enjoyment of the golf course and interaction with fans is well-known, making his agreement to participate a distinct honor.

The tournament will unfold across two prominent Upstate courses: Thornblade in Greer, hosting games from June 4-7, and the Spartanburg Country Club, with events scheduled for June 4-5. Metcalf unveiled the impressive roster of celebrity guests at the BMW Performance Center in Greer on April 24. This year's lineup promises a star-studded affair, including baseball icon Roger Clemens, former NFL standout Steve Smith Sr., respected sports journalist Jimmy Roberts, and actor Brian Baumgartner, widely recognized for his role as Kevin in 'The Office.'

Beyond the greens, the event promises a vibrant calendar of activities. Festivities kick off with a dog-friendly walk/run on Saturday, May 30, followed by a lively street party in downtown Greer on Sunday, May 31. Music enthusiasts can look forward to a concert by the legendary Disco-era band KC and the Sunshine Band at the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium on Thursday, June 4. Adding to the excitement, Bill Murray himself will take the stage as the frontman of 'Bill Murray and his Blood Brothers' on Saturday, June 6, at 3's Golf and Grubhouse, offering a unique entertainment experience for attendees.

A core mission of the BMW Charity Pro-Am is to generate funds for various non-profit organizations throughout the Upstate region. Beneficiaries include Mobile Meals of Spartanburg, the Hispanic Alliance, Gibbs Cancer Center, Neighborhood Cancer Connection, and Upstate Warrior Solution, among others. As a segment of the Korn Ferry Tour, a developmental platform for the PGA Tour, the tournament relies heavily on the dedication of numerous volunteers. There are still opportunities available for those interested in contributing their time and effort to this impactful event.

The BMW Charity Pro-Am is not just a golf tournament; it's a community celebration that combines the thrill of professional golf with celebrity entertainment and a strong philanthropic spirit. The inclusion of Bill Murray this year elevates the event's profile, promising a memorable experience for participants and spectators alike, while continuing its vital support for local charities. This blend of sport, celebrity, and charity underscores the event's significance to the Upstate community.
