Disney+, the streaming platform from Walt Disney, has announced a significant content partnership with RTVE, Spain's public broadcaster. This agreement, set to commence on March 31, represents a strategic move to broaden Disney+'s content library in Europe while providing RTVE with an expanded distribution channel to engage younger demographics across Spain. This collaboration is notable as it allows RTVE's programs to be available on Disney+ a day after their traditional television broadcast, a first of its kind for a European state broadcaster.

The new alliance builds upon Disney+'s existing network of partnerships with major European free-to-air broadcasters, including ITV in the U.K., ARD and ZDF in Germany, SIC in Portugal, and Atresmedia, also in Spain. This strategy aligns with Disney CEO Josh D'Amaro's vision to position Disney+ as a central digital hub for the company's content. Karl Holmes, General Manager for Disney+ EMEA, has previously highlighted the mutual benefits of such collaborations, emphasizing that these partnerships allow Disney+ to offer localized programming that resonates with European audiences, complementing its global content.

The agreement between Disney+ and RTVE aims to not only enhance the Spanish audiovisual landscape and foster local talent but also to maximize the visibility of RTVE's productions through a global platform. Both entities expressed intentions to explore further synergies to strengthen their editorial and audiovisual strategies. Among the featured programs under this new deal are popular reality and drama series. Notably, the 14th season of 'MasterChef' and the 11th season of 'MasterChef Celebrity,' produced by RTVE in collaboration with Shine Iberia, will be available on Disney+ immediately following their broadcast on the La1 network.

Additionally, the deal includes scripted content such as 'Rojo Sobre Blanco,' a forthcoming series from Mediawan's Good Mood, with further titles expected to be announced soon. Holmes praised RTVE's rich history and popularity among Spanish viewers, expressing enthusiasm for bringing their iconic shows to Disney+ subscribers. He reiterated Disney+'s commitment to collaborating with Europe's leading free-to-air broadcasters, facilitating access to high-quality local storytelling for new and younger audiences, and anticipating many future joint ventures.

This partnership underscores Disney+'s ongoing efforts to diversify its content offerings and reinforce its presence in key international markets, leveraging local content to attract and retain subscribers. By making popular local shows readily accessible, Disney+ aims to enhance its appeal and solidify its position in the competitive European streaming landscape.
