Speculation is swirling about the potential addition of a fifth theme park at Walt Disney World in Florida, stemming from a newly approved development plan. A report from The Street, a business and finance publication, suggests that Disney World and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District have reached an agreement for future development on approximately 850 acres of Disney's vast 43-square-mile property. Although Disney has not yet made any official statements, numerous indicators point towards the possibility of a new theme park.

The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (CFTOD) released a comprehensive 406-page document, the “Comprehensive Plan 2045,” which will serve as a guide for land use and infrastructure decisions in the coming decades. This plan offers insights into potential upgrades and new developments. The specific wording regarding Disney’s property within this document implies that the entertainment giant might be preparing to launch a standalone fifth theme park. The plan indicates that undeveloped land owned by Walt Disney World “could support ‘one major and two minor theme parks.’” It’s important to note that the document clarifies there are no plans currently under review, and this agreement does not constitute permission for immediate construction. However, it signifies an end to years of disputes between Disney and the CFTOD, outlining a possible path forward, particularly as Disney considers its response to Universal Orlando's Epic Universe.

Currently, Disney World boasts four theme parks—Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Epcot, and Hollywood Studios—along with two water parks, Disney Springs, and over 20 resort hotels. In recent years, these parks have seen numerous expansions and new attractions, such as Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure. At D23, Disney's annual fan expo, new lands themed after Cars, Monsters, Inc., and even an area dedicated to iconic villains have been announced for existing parks. With Universal Orlando’s Epic Universe now open, many theme park enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting Disney’s potential countermove. The upcoming D23 expo, scheduled from August 14 to 16, is anticipated to bring significant announcements, and the possibility of a fifth theme park is high on the list of anticipated revelations. This development marks an exciting time for Disney fans and promises an even more enchanting future for the Florida resort.
