In the vibrant borough of Queens, Flushing Town Hall (FTH) is set to present a remarkable lineup of jazz performances and cultural events this May. Honoring International Jazz Day on May 1, the venue continues its legacy of bringing world-class jazz to audiences through engaging and diverse programs. Among the highlights are captivating violin concerts, community town hall meetings, monthly jazz jams, and global music mashups that blend genres and traditions. These events aim not only to entertain but also to unite communities through shared artistic experiences.

American violinist Stella Chen will captivate audiences with her ensemble on May 8 at 7:30 p.m., presenting an innovative mix of classical works inspired by Mozart's compositions and Renaissance art. This free performance offers a delightful evening filled with timeless melodies and premieres crafted by Chen herself. On May 13 at 6 p.m., FTH partners with the New York State Council on the Arts for a special town hall meeting as part of its ongoing cultural mapping project. Artists, musicians, leaders, and residents from across Queens are invited to share ideas, discuss upcoming initiatives, and explore collaborative opportunities within the borough’s thriving arts scene.

Jazz enthusiasts have much to look forward to during FTH's monthly jazz jams led by Carol Sudhalter on May 14 at 7 p.m. Professional musicians and aspiring talents alike gather to create unforgettable live music sessions, often themed around the spirit of the month. Attendees can enjoy these lively gatherings for just $10, or attend for free if they're members, students, or participating musicians. Closing out the month is a unique Global Mashup event on May 17, featuring Persian musician Mehrnam Rastegari alongside Queen Esther, blending Middle Eastern rock with Western swing. The evening begins with dance lessons before transitioning into a concert celebrating cross-cultural storytelling through sound.

Through its eclectic array of offerings, Flushing Town Hall fosters connections between people through music and dialogue. Each event provides opportunities for personal growth, communal engagement, and exploration of different cultures—all while enjoying exceptional performances.
