This quarter, international small-cap equities experienced an upswing, fueled by a reduction in macroeconomic uncertainties and strong earnings reports. The market observed a notable outperformance of growth stocks, especially those associated with artificial intelligence and semiconductor technologies, over value stocks. While the overall portfolio performance closely tracked its benchmark, strategic adjustments were made to capitalize on emerging opportunities.

During this period, several key movements defined the portfolio's strategy. Investments were increased in companies such as Travis Perkins, a prominent housing materials distributor, Ibstock, a building products manufacturer, and Ariston Holding, a producer of heating and water technology. These additions were strategically timed during periods of stock weakness, reflecting a belief in their long-term value despite short-term fluctuations. The rationale behind these moves was often linked to an anticipation of recovery in specific sectors or resilience in demand.

Conversely, certain positions were closed or trimmed. Ferrexpo was exited due to concerns regarding its governance. Other companies, including Aurubis, Barry Callebaut, and Senior, were divested following strong performance, allowing for profit realization. Additionally, holdings in Kanto Denka Kogyo and Tokai Carbon were reduced. These reallocations freed up capital, which was then directed towards other investment opportunities deemed more attractive, aligning with the core philosophy of identifying undervalued businesses with strong potential.

The adjustments made to the portfolio underscore a dynamic investment approach, balancing sector-specific opportunities with broader market trends. The emphasis remains on thorough fundamental analysis to distinguish between temporary setbacks and permanent issues, ensuring that capital is deployed in businesses poised for sustainable recovery and growth.
