In the initial six months of 2026, Goldman Sachs and RBC Capital Markets distinguished themselves as leading financial advisors within the oil and gas industry's merger and acquisition (M&A) activities. Goldman Sachs secured the top position based on the total value of deals, while RBC Capital Markets led in the number of transactions facilitated. This leadership demonstrates their significant influence and strategic involvement in major energy sector consolidations.

According to comprehensive data compiled by GlobalData's Financial Deals Database, Goldman Sachs provided advisory services for deals amounting to an impressive $48.3 billion during the first half of 2026. Following closely, Evercore ranked second in deal value, having overseen transactions worth $31.6 billion. JPMorgan also played a substantial role, advising on deals totaling $25.6 billion, slightly ahead of RBC Capital Markets, which managed $25.4 billion in transaction value. Barclays rounded out the top five with deals collectively valued at $12.6 billion.

When examining the volume of deals, RBC Capital Markets clearly took the lead, successfully completing 12 transactions. This firm was the only one to achieve a double-digit deal count during this period, highlighting its broad engagement across the sector. Jefferies followed with seven deals, while Moelis & Company secured the third spot with six. Both Evercore and Houlihan Lokey each advised on five separate deals, further illustrating the competitive landscape of financial advisory services in the oil and gas M&A market.

Aurojyoti Bose, a lead analyst at GlobalData, emphasized the consistent performance of RBC Capital Markets, noting its retention of the top position by volume from the previous year. Bose also highlighted Goldman Sachs' exceptional performance in terms of deal value, attributing it to their involvement in a few high-value transactions, including two mega-deals exceeding $10 billion each. These insights underscore the diverse strategies employed by leading financial institutions to carve out dominant positions in a dynamic market environment.

The rankings provided by GlobalData are meticulously compiled through continuous monitoring of numerous company and advisory firm websites, alongside other credible secondary sources. A dedicated analytical team diligently gathers detailed information for each transaction, ensuring accuracy and comprehensiveness. To further enhance data integrity, GlobalData also actively solicits deal submissions directly from prominent advisory firms, reinforcing the robustness of their analyses.

During the first half of 2026, the oil and gas sector witnessed substantial M&A activity, with financial giants like Goldman Sachs and RBC Capital Markets demonstrating their prowess. Goldman Sachs' strategic focus on high-value transactions propelled it to the forefront in terms of capital, while RBC Capital Markets' extensive engagement across numerous deals solidified its position as a leader in transaction volume. These firms, along with others like Evercore and JPMorgan, navigated a complex market, shaping the future landscape of the energy industry through significant consolidations and investments.
