In a significant development for collegiate athletics, Jalen Cox, a highly touted guard from Colgate, has officially committed to the University of Southern California (USC) men's basketball program via the transfer portal. This move bolsters USC's roster with an experienced player known for his impressive statistical contributions and leadership on the court. Cox's decision to join the Trojans signals a new chapter in his collegiate career, bringing his talents to a prominent West Coast program.

Cox publicly announced his commitment to USC on Wednesday, sharing an image of himself in a USC jersey with the caption, "THE PLACE TO BE." This declaration has generated considerable excitement among fans and analysts alike, anticipating the impact he will have on the team. He joins Georgetown transfer guard KJ Lewis and UConn transfer center Eric Reibe as key offseason acquisitions for the Trojans, indicating a strategic effort to strengthen the team's depth and skill across multiple positions.

With one season of NCAA eligibility remaining, Cox is poised to become an integral part of USC's backcourt, alongside Lewis and returning guard Rodney Rice. His track record at Colgate is nothing short of exceptional. In his previous season, he emerged as one of the Patriot League's top performers, leading the conference in assists with an average of 5.3 per game and ranking third in scoring with 17.9 points per game. His all-around offensive prowess and court vision will be invaluable to the Trojans.

Beyond his offensive contributions, Cox has also been recognized for his defensive capabilities. During the 2025-26 season, he earned prestigious honors, including being named to the All-Patriot League First Team and the All-Defensive Team. The season prior, as a sophomore, he was selected for the All-Patriot League Third Team and the All-Defensive Team, highlighting his consistent performance on both ends of the floor. His ability to impact the game defensively, coupled with his offensive output, makes him a comprehensive player.

For Cox, this transfer also signifies a homecoming. A native of Los Angeles, he attended Loyola High School, where he excelled in both basketball and track and field. During his high school career, he averaged an impressive 20 points per game and received All-Mission League First Team honors. After graduating from Loyola, Cox further honed his skills at the South Kent School in Connecticut, a renowned college-preparatory institution. There, he earned an All-NEPSAC Honorable Mention, was recognized as South Kent's Offensive Player of the Year, and played a crucial role in leading his team to win the NEPSAC AAA Championship in 2023.

The addition of Jalen Cox from the transfer portal is a strategic move for USC men's basketball, enhancing their roster with a dynamic guard who brings both scoring and playmaking abilities. His extensive experience and proven track record in collegiate basketball are expected to significantly contribute to the team's aspirations for the upcoming season, as he returns to his hometown ready to make an immediate impact on the court.
