Veteran actor Keith David has officially joined the cast of NBC's new comedy pilot centered on a private investigation agency, a project crafted by the minds behind "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," Dan Goor and Luke Del Tredici. David's casting adds a significant talent to the ensemble, as he is set to portray a character with a commanding presence and an old-school perspective.

David will embody Garner Taggert, the owner and operator of the Garner Taggert PI Agency. His character is depicted as a stern individual with traditional viewpoints, overseeing a team that includes his son, Mitch, and the previously announced private investigator, Mickey Wilder, played by Jake Johnson. Johnson's character, Mickey, is introduced as a sharp, cynical, yet emotionally vulnerable detective, a former LAPD officer whose career took an unexpected turn three years prior. The narrative promises to explore the humorous exploits of this Los Angeles-based detective agency.

While specific plot details remain under wraps, the show's creators humorously suggest it will uphold the rich legacy of Los Angeles private eye stories, from the iconic Philip Marlowe to what they playfully imply will be the ultimate conclusion of the genre. David's impressive career spans numerous acclaimed projects, including his Emmy-winning narration for Ken Burns documentaries and roles in films like "American Fiction" and "Nope," as well as television series such as "Greenleaf" and "Abbott Elementary." His next appearance will be in the action film "Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice." The pilot is being executive produced and written by Goor and Del Tredici, with Akiva Schaffer directing and also serving as an executive producer, all under the Universal Television banner.

This new venture into comedy promises to deliver an engaging and entertaining narrative, leveraging the talents of its lead actors and the proven comedic sensibilities of its creators. It highlights the enduring appeal of detective stories, reimagined with fresh perspectives and a comedic edge, offering audiences a blend of mystery, character-driven humor, and potentially insightful observations on human nature.
