This enhanced collaboration focuses on the "InFocus: Puglia" initiative, a dedicated platform showcasing emerging short films from Italy's picturesque southern region, Puglia.

NFMLA, a renowned non-profit organization dedicated to arts and culture, actively champions independent artists throughout the year. As part of its April Monthly Film Festival, NFMLA will proudly host the Italian film event in Los Angeles, presenting groundbreaking cinematic works from rising filmmakers to both the public and industry experts.
A Three-Year Vision for Artistic and Production Synergy
Following a successful initial collaboration in 2024, NFMLA has formally committed to a new, comprehensive three-year strategic partnership with the Apulia Film Commission and the Puglia region. This ambitious agreement seeks to "deepen artistic connections and reinforce production links between Southern Italy and Los Angeles."
Formalizing a Transatlantic Artistic Exchange
The extended partnership, spanning from 2026 to 2028, establishes formal agreements for reciprocal industry initiatives, synchronized artistic endeavors, collaborative marketing strategies, and the sharing of best practices between the Apulia Film Commission and NFMLA. What began as a week-long cultural exchange in 2024 has now evolved into a sustained, multi-year commitment, specifically designed to elevate Apulian filmmakers within the international marketplace and solidify creative and production bonds between Italy and California.
The Driving Forces Behind the "InFocus: Puglia" Initiative
The "InFocus: Puglia" project was conceived by Los Angeles-based Italian journalist Silvia Bizio. She, alongside NFMLA's executive director Larry Laboe and programming director Bojana Sandic, guides its artistic vision. Simone Di Cori acts as the Italian producer for the project, while Lauren Muniz, George Gomez, and Daphne Trinh from NFMLA spearhead engagement, educational outreach, and professional development activities in Los Angeles. The project also enjoys the strong backing of Anna Maria Tosto and Antonio Parente, the president and director of the Apulia Film Commission, respectively.

The 2026 selection of "InFocus: Puglia" short films showcases a rich tapestry of genres, from intimate character explorations to insightful reflections on identity and intergenerational shifts. The 2026 "InFocus: Puglia" program proudly presents "Il generale," directed by Nicolò Accettura; "Nonna Rivoltella," helmed by Mario Bucci; "La Fémmina," by Simona De Simone (also known as Nuanda Sheridan); "Lo so," from Alessandra Mangia; and two short films by Roberta Martinelli, "Facciamo che siamo marito e moglie" and "Di notte."
