In a significant move within the energy sector, Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. – Petrobras (PBR) has forged a strategic alliance with SBM Offshore, a global leader in floating production solutions. This collaboration centers on the acquisition of two advanced floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessels, specifically designed for deepwater oil and gas extraction in the promising Sergipe basin. This initiative underscores Petrobras's commitment to expanding its production capabilities and capitalizing on substantial offshore reserves, projecting an output exceeding one billion barrels of oil equivalent from these new ventures. The intricate deal positions SBM Offshore as the key partner responsible for the entire lifecycle of these vessels, from initial design and construction to their operational deployment for an initial period of six and a half years.

The formal agreement, finalized on May 28, marks a pivotal step in developing two major oil and gas projects. Under the terms of the contract, SBM Offshore will deliver the FPSO SEAP-I and FPSO SEAP-II, which are integral to tapping into the rich Sergipe-Alagoas basin. These vessels represent cutting-edge technology in offshore production, capable of handling the complex demands of deepwater environments. Petrobras will maintain ownership of these critical assets, leveraging SBM Offshore's specialized expertise for their long-term operational success.

A notable highlight of this partnership is the ambitious design for the SEAP-II FPSO, designated as P-87. This vessel is engineered for impressive daily production, targeting 120,000 barrels of crude oil. Beyond oil, it will feature an integrated gas treatment system with a capacity of 425 million standard cubic feet per day, alongside a substantial water injection capacity of 120,000 barrels per day. The projected delivery of the SEAP-II FPSO is set for 2030, signalling a long-term vision for the project's impact on Brazil's energy landscape.

Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. – Petrobras operates as a state-controlled multinational energy corporation with diverse interests in oil and gas exploration, production, refining, and distribution. Its strategic focus on deepwater projects, such as those in the Sergipe basin, aligns with its mandate to enhance Brazil's energy independence and economic growth.

This partnership between Petrobras and SBM Offshore demonstrates a forward-looking approach to energy development, combining robust design, advanced engineering, and operational excellence to unlock significant hydrocarbon resources in a challenging deepwater environment. The initiative is poised to enhance Brazil's energy output, supported by state-of-the-art floating production technology.
