This quarterly review analyzes the performance, key holdings, and strategic adjustments of a global all-cap portfolio. Achieving a net return of 8.05% for the period, the portfolio's performance is contextualized against the backdrop of a dynamic global equities market, which saw broad gains across most sectors. The analysis delves into the individual contributions of top-performing assets, notably those benefiting from robust AI-driven demand and stabilizing industry trends, as well as the challenges faced by certain holdings due to market sentiment and competitive pressures. Furthermore, the report introduces new strategic investments, carefully selected for their intrinsic value and long-term growth potential amidst evolving market conditions.

The global equities landscape witnessed an upward trajectory throughout the quarter, with a significant majority of GICS sectors recording positive returns. Information technology and financial services emerged as the primary drivers of market growth, underscoring a prevailing optimism in these segments. Conversely, the energy sector experienced a slight downturn, marking it as the sole detractor during this period. Geographically, the United States and Japan were instrumental in propelling market performance, while regions such as Hong Kong and Norway observed a decline in their contributions.

Against this market backdrop, the portfolio delivered an 8.05% net return. While this figure indicates a healthy gain, it trailed the MSCI World Index's impressive 13.76% return over the same timeframe. This divergence prompts a closer examination of the factors influencing the portfolio's relative performance, highlighting both its strengths and areas for potential enhancement.

Among the standout performers, Samsung Electronics played a pivotal role, buoyed by an exceptional first-quarter operating profit. This surge was largely attributed to burgeoning demand for semiconductors, particularly those integral to artificial intelligence applications. The company's leadership noted a sustained imbalance where memory chip supply struggled to keep pace with customer needs, fostering a favorable pricing environment. The current memory market upswing is notably robust, propelled by the increasing computational demands of AI workloads, especially for high-bandwidth memory. As a global leader in memory solutions, Samsung is strategically positioned to capitalize on this long-term demand expansion.

Molina Healthcare also contributed positively to the portfolio, following an encouraging first-quarter earnings report. The managed care provider demonstrated improved performance across its various business segments, with a Medicaid medical loss ratio that surpassed expectations. As the quarter progressed, medical cost trends began to stabilize, alleviating some of the pressure on managed care earnings. Management conveyed a positive outlook, supported by favorable indicators in the Marketplace, where the impact of expiring subsidies on acuity shifts proved less severe than initially anticipated. We foresee further upside for Molina as the broader managed care environment normalizes.

Hamamatsu Photonics, a Japanese specialist in photodetectors and optical sensors, saw its stock appreciate after reporting results that exceeded consensus estimates for earnings before interest and tax, alongside a significant upward revision of its full-year guidance. This growth was primarily driven by strong demand for semiconductor-related inspection equipment, fueled by the generative AI investment cycle. We continue to recognize Hamamatsu as a dominant entity with strong shareholder returns, trading at what we believe is a considerable discount to its intrinsic value.

On the other hand, Salesforce experienced a decline, primarily due to broader market anxieties regarding the potential disruptive influence of AI on the software industry. Despite these concerns, we maintain that Salesforce is well-equipped to assist its clients in implementing AI technologies and realizing their benefits. We are encouraged by the continued revenue growth and margin expansion, which contradict the narrative of industry disruption. Salesforce's ongoing $25 billion share repurchase program is viewed as an excellent deployment of capital at current valuations.

Netflix's shares also saw a dip, despite reporting first-quarter revenue and EBIT that surpassed analyst expectations. The downturn was attributed to investor disappointment when management did not announce a larger buy-back, which had been anticipated following the abandoned Warner Bros. Discovery deal. Nevertheless, the underlying business fundamentals strengthened, with record high engagement, improved churn rates, and a well-received price increase in the U.S. We continue to believe the stock presents an attractive upside potential.

Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) also acted as a detractor, impacted by market fears concerning AI disruption and potential competition from new perpetual futures exchanges. We consider these threats to ICE's business, which benefits from strong network effects, to be overstated. The company continues to achieve double-digit earnings per share growth and returns a significant portion of its free cash flow to shareholders. We believe ICE is a resilient business with substantial long-term growth prospects.

Looking ahead, investor enthusiasm for AI remains a prominent theme shaping market dynamics. Rather than attempting to forecast specific winners and losers in the AI race, our strategy remains anchored in evaluating companies based on their fundamental competitive advantages, long-term cash-flow generation potential, and valuation relative to their intrinsic worth. This approach allows us to navigate market trends with a focus on enduring value, ensuring that investment decisions are robust and sustainable over time. This ongoing commitment to rigorous fundamental analysis and a value-oriented perspective guides our portfolio construction and management in an ever-evolving investment landscape.
