First Wave of Artists Announced for Milestone Event
The South by Southwest festival has unveiled the initial roster of performers for its landmark 40th anniversary music event, set to electrify Austin, Texas, from March 12 to 18. This first announcement introduces a diverse array of over 100 musical acts, showcasing both established names and rising stars from around the world. Among the notable artists confirmed to perform are the Grammy-nominated rapper and Tully founder, Joyner Lucas, experimental music producer DJ_Dave, and the vibrant Indonesian group, Grrrl Gang. The lineup further includes talents such as Milo Korbenski from Brighton, La Texana representing Mexico City, Brooklyn-based Hudson Freeman, Austin's own Bayonne, and Indian-American rapper KOAD, all set to contribute to the festival's rich tapestry of sound.
SXSW's Enduring Legacy in Music Discovery
Brian Hobbs, the Vice President of music at SXSW, emphasized the festival's four-decade-long commitment to fostering music discovery. He highlighted SXSW's instrumental role in catapulting artists like Kendrick Lamar, The White Stripes, Wet Leg, PinkPantheress, Tyler, the Creator, and Billie Eilish to global recognition. Hobbs articulated that by converging the international music industry in Austin—including record labels, artist and repertoire (A&R) representatives, publicists, and influential journalists—SXSW offers a distinctive environment for showcasing artists to grow their careers, penetrate new markets, and exchange insights with peers and industry leaders. He also noted the addition of an extra night of performances for the upcoming year, suggesting that the 2026 festival is on track to be an exceptional experience for artists, industry professionals, and audiences.
Rolling Stone's Continued Involvement and Showcase Presence
Rolling Stone magazine is set to resume its role as a key music showcase presenter at SXSW 2026. This follows the success of its 2025 "Future of Music Showcase," which captivated audiences at Austin's renowned ACL Live at the Moody Theater for four nights. The event drew sell-out crowds to witness performances by artists such as Benson Boone, Megan Moroney, Ivan Cornejo, and Rema, alongside other global musicians. This showcase was an integral part of Rolling Stone's annual "Future of Music issue" and its "Future 25" list, spotlighting many of the emerging talents featured during the festival.
Diverse Presenters Enhance the SXSW Experience
The festival will also welcome back a host of prominent presenters, including Billboard, various NPR music stations, the Los Angeles Times' De Los, BMG, the College of Hip Hop Knowledge, BBC Introducing, the British Music Embassy, and The Line of Best Fit. Adding to the excitement, Willie Nelson's Luck Reunion and Dream Con are joining the lineup as first-time presenters, promising fresh perspectives and diverse programming for attendees.
Highlighting Insights from Featured Sessions
In preparation for the main event, SXSW had previously announced its first series of featured sessions. These included insightful music-focused discussions with groups like the All-American Rejects, who shared their experiences from a widely successful independent house tour, and indie rapper Russ, who provided an account of his career trajectory in conversation with TuneCore CEO Andreea Gleeson. These sessions aim to provide valuable industry knowledge and inspiration to aspiring and established artists alike.
