The acclaimed stage production of 'Hadestown,' a recipient of multiple Tony Awards and a fixture in both Broadway and the West End, is poised for a cinematic debut. This live recording of the musical, an innovative reinterpretation of ancient Greek myths through the lenses of American folk music and New Orleans jazz, will be unveiled in theaters across North America in late July of 2026. This initiative aims to broaden the accessibility of the beloved show, offering a unique opportunity for audiences beyond the stage.

Crafted by the talented Anaïs Mitchell, 'Hadestown' captivated critics and audiences alike, securing eight Tony Awards in 2019, including the coveted Best Musical title. Its enduring appeal is evident in its continuous runs, now in its seventh year on Broadway and its third year in London's West End. The upcoming film adaptation, titled 'Hadestown: The Musical,' was captured live during a London performance, meticulously preserving the energy and artistry of the stage for the big screen.

A significant highlight of the cinematic version is the return of five principal cast members from the original Broadway production. Reeve Carney will reprise his role as Orpheus, Andre De Shields as Hermes, Amber Gray as Persephone, Eva Noblezada as Eurydice, and Patrick Page as Hades. This reunion of the initial stars promises to deliver an authentic and powerful rendition of the musical's narrative, which weaves together the tragic love stories of Orpheus and Eurydice with the tumultuous relationship of Hades and Persephone. Brett Sullivan of Stream and Sound directed the live capture, ensuring a high-quality transition from stage to film. While the North American release is set, a date for its theatrical debut in the United Kingdom is anticipated to be announced in the future.

Producers Mara Isaacs, Dale Franzen, Hunter Arnold, and Tom Kirdahy, who have been instrumental in the stage production's success, are also at the helm of this film project. They are dedicated to extending the reach of 'Hadestown,' making its profound storytelling and distinctive musical style available to a global audience through cinema. The theatrical release represents a new chapter for the musical, allowing its legacy to flourish beyond live performances and resonate with countless new viewers for years to come. This venture marks a notable collaboration between Bleecker Street’s Crosswalk and LD Entertainment, who are committed to bringing more live theater experiences to movie screens, following previous successes such as the musical 'Waitress' and the 'Stray Kids: The domiATE Experience' concert film.

The film further expands its ensemble to include Bella Brown, Madeline Charlemagne, and Allie Daniel as the Fates, with Lauren Azania, Tiago Dhondt Bamberger, Ryesha Higgs, Waylon Jacobs, and Christopher Short portraying the Workers. Lucinda Buckley, Francessca Daniella-Baker, Winny Herbert, and Miriam Nyarko will serve as swings, contributing to the richness of the performance. This comprehensive capture ensures that the full spectacle and emotional depth of 'Hadestown' are preserved, offering an immersive experience for those who witness it in theaters. The producers express enthusiasm for this cinematic offering, believing it will deeply resonate with a broader demographic.
