Tubi, the free streaming service owned by Fox, has announced an exclusive agreement to bring a vast collection of classic "Sesame Street" episodes to its platform. This move aims to tap into audience nostalgia while providing valuable educational content to a new generation of viewers, highlighting the timeless appeal of the beloved children's program.

Rediscover Childhood Magic: "Sesame Street" Classics Arrive on Tubi

Tubi Embraces Nostalgia with "Sesame Street" Deal

Tubi is making a strategic play to engage viewers through nostalgia, securing a deal to host classic episodes of the iconic children's series, "Sesame Street." The Fox-owned, ad-supported streamer will feature 250 episodes from the show's early years, spanning seasons one through 38, originally aired between 1969 and 2007. This exclusive one-year agreement is set to commence on April 1, offering a journey back in time for many adults and an introduction to classic characters for younger audiences.

A Rotating Selection of Beloved Episodes

To keep the content fresh and continually engaging, Tubi plans to rotate 10 percent of the available "Sesame Street" episodes every quarter. This ensures a steady stream of different classic installments, allowing viewers to discover or revisit a wider range of beloved moments from the show's extensive history. The rotating catalog will bring a dynamic viewing experience to the platform.

Bringing Joyful Learning to a New Generation

Adam Lewinson, Tubi's chief content officer, emphasized the significance of this acquisition. He highlighted "Sesame Street's" unparalleled ability to shape young minds and spark imagination. By making these hundreds of episodes freely accessible, Tubi aims to provide children with joyful, foundational learning experiences, while simultaneously inviting parents to share cherished memories from their own childhoods with their kids.

Milestone Episodes and Memorable Moments

The collection will include several landmark episodes that hold a special place in the hearts of fans. Among them are the series' 1969 debut, featuring Gordon introducing Sally to "Sesame Street"; the 1988 episode celebrating the marriage of characters Maria and Luis, with Elmo as the ring-bearer; and the memorable 1980 installment where "Star Wars" characters C-3PO and R2-D2 made a guest appearance. Viewers can also look forward to "Big Bird Goes to Hawaii" from 1978, a pioneering episode that marked one of the show's first major on-location productions.

"Sesame Street's" Evolving Presence in Streaming

"Sesame Street," a production of the New York-based nonprofit Sesame Workshop, has been a fixture on PBS since its inception in 1969. However, in recent years, streaming platforms have increasingly recognized the show's immense appeal. HBO first partnered with the series in 2015, providing an initial viewing window before episodes aired on public television. Following the conclusion of HBO's agreement, Netflix stepped in to air new episodes alongside PBS in 2025, and YouTube also secured a deal with Sesame Workshop to feature classic episodes that same year, demonstrating the show's enduring relevance across various digital mediums.

Responding to Audience Demand for Nostalgic Content

The deal with Tubi further underscores the lasting popularity of iconic characters like Big Bird and Elmo. This strategic move aligns perfectly with findings from a recent poll conducted by Tubi and The Harris Poll, which revealed a strong public appetite for nostalgic storytelling. The survey indicated that 97 percent of respondents were interested in watching content released more than a decade ago, and 79 percent believed that streaming services should focus on re-promoting beloved older projects in addition to new releases, affirming Tubi's decision.

Expanding Reach and Educational Impact

Joseph Giraldi, chief operating officer of Sesame Workshop, expressed enthusiasm for the new partnership. He emphasized that for over 55 years, "Sesame Street" has been dedicated to providing accessible, joyful, and trusted learning experiences for all children. Bringing the show to Tubi will significantly expand its reach and impact, ensuring that its cherished characters and proven educational media are made available to an even broader audience of children, families, and fans worldwide.
