A vibrant season of music awaits audiences in Winchendon as the local music festival prepares to host a variety of concerts spanning multiple genres. Established in 2016, this festival has long been celebrated for its eclectic mix of performances featuring both emerging and renowned artists from around the globe. This year's lineup includes classical ensembles, jazz bands, and folk groups, each bringing unique sounds to historic venues within the town. The festival aims to engage listeners through rich musical traditions and innovative contemporary pieces.
Kicking off the spring series is the Arpeggione Ensemble, set to perform at the Murdock-Whitney House on May 31. Their program will highlight Ludwig van Beethoven’s Septet in E-flat Major, Op. 20, with an ensemble of talented musicians showcasing their skills on instruments ranging from clarinet to bass. Among them is Andrew Arceci, whose illustrious career spans continents and collaborations with prestigious institutions. Known for his versatility, Arceci has also contributed recordings to numerous labels.
Continuing the festivities, John Arcaro & Band will grace the stage on June 2. Arcaro, a distinguished faculty member at Berklee College of Music, promises a night filled with timeless classics from the “Great American Songbook” interwoven with modern jazz compositions. Following closely, Duo Sorolla will captivate audiences on June 3 with their interpretations of works by composers such as Reynaldo Hahn and Astor Piazzolla, blending cello and piano harmoniously.
In the fall, the festival shifts gears with a double bill event on October 3 at The Flower Shop. Chris Moyse, a singer-songwriter known for his heartfelt ballads, will share the spotlight with Floyds Row, a collective that delves into the intricate relationships between different musical styles. On October 4, the Worcester Jazz Orchestra will close out the season at the Winchendon Amphitheater, offering renditions of iconic tracks by Glenn Miller and Buddy Rich among others.
From intimate house concerts to large outdoor gatherings, the Winchendon Music Festival offers something for everyone. Each performance not only celebrates the universal language of music but also fosters connections between diverse cultures and communities, ensuring a memorable experience for all attendees.
