Oscar winner Guneet Monga Kapoor, through Women in Film India, has announced a significant collaboration with Jio Studios, a division of Reliance Industries, to create a scholarship program. This initiative is designed to support mid-career Indian women producers by providing them with the opportunity to participate in the Producers Network at the Cannes Film Market.
The program, developed in conjunction with the Cannes Film Market, is now accepting applications until April 5th. Successful candidates will engage in the Producers Network Breakfast series from May 13th to 18th in Cannes. This network is globally recognized for connecting over 370 producers annually, facilitating international co-productions, and fostering relationships with financiers and collaborators worldwide. Jyoti Deshpande, President of Jio Studios, emphasized the company's commitment to inclusive storytelling, particularly in backing women filmmakers to lead and share their narratives on a global stage, aligning with the belief that a diverse range of voices is crucial for the future of cinema. Monga Kapoor herself attests to the transformative power of the Producers Network, having gained invaluable connections and a global perspective from her past participation, and now aims to extend this vital access to her peers.
This partnership with Jio Studios marks an important expansion of Women in Film India's program, which began last year with the successful support of three women producers at Cannes. Rabia Chopra, head of development and programming for WIF India, expressed her enthusiasm for Jio Studios' involvement, noting that this collaboration strengthens their shared mission. Eligibility for the scholarship requires applicants to be India-based women producers actively developing a feature-length project, with at least one theatrically released feature or documentary in the last four years, a valid passport, and availability to travel to Cannes in May. The selection process will prioritize the candidate's industry experience, the originality of their project, and its potential for international distribution and co-production.
