Two stalwarts of the experimental rock scene, Lightning Bolt and OOIOO, are set to captivate audiences with a collaborative split LP. This highly anticipated project, named "The Horizon Spirals / The Horizon Viral," will be released through Thrill Jockey on April 24. OOIOO, the innovative ensemble led by Boredoms drummer YoshimiO, has also confirmed a rare live performance at the Open Melody Festival in Los Angeles, with additional dates expected to be announced soon, creating excitement among their dedicated fanbase. Enthusiasts can already experience a preview of the album with Lightning Bolt's track, "Cloud Core."

Brian Chippendale, the drummer and vocalist for Lightning Bolt, shared insights into the album's concept, noting that while OOIOO established the initial "spiral theme" with "The Horizon Spiral," Lightning Bolt gravitated towards a "viral" interpretation. He humorously remarked on their shared appreciation for exploring complex, winding themes, akin to venturing down a "rabbit hole." This artistic divergence within a unified project promises a diverse and engaging listening experience, reflecting each band's distinct creative approach.

This release follows Lightning Bolt's 2019 Thrill Jockey album, "Sonic Citadel," though the duo has since released supplementary material through Chippendale's Patreon. OOIOO's last offering, "Nijimusi," came out in 2020. The impending split LP is poised to be a significant moment for both groups and their followers, offering new sonic explorations and reaffirming their influential positions within experimental rock. It showcases their ongoing commitment to pushing musical boundaries and delivering fresh, thought-provoking compositions to the global music community.

The collaboration between Lightning Bolt and OOIOO exemplifies the boundless creativity and innovative spirit that thrive within the music industry. Their decision to merge their distinct sounds into a single project not only enriches their respective discographies but also inspires other artists to explore new avenues of collaboration and artistic expression. This partnership is a testament to the power of shared vision and the enduring appeal of music that dares to defy convention.
