An exclusive acquisition has been made by Zeitgeist Films, in collaboration with Kino Lorber, securing all U.S. rights to Ido Fluk’s Köln 75. This film delves into the compelling backstory of Keith Jarrett’s legendary 1975 concert in Cologne, Germany, which set records and became a cornerstone of jazz history. Set for a theatrical release this fall at New York's IFC Center, followed by a national rollout, the movie features Mala Emde, John Magaro, and Michael Chernus. It garnered four Lola Award nominations in Germany and has surpassed one million dollars at the box office there. Following its Special Gala premiere at the 2025 Berlinale, the film is poised for international releases in the coming months.

Ido Fluk’s Köln 75 chronicles the intricate planning and execution of what could have been a missed opportunity in music history. Based on real events, it highlights the pivotal role played by Vera Brandes, portrayed by German actress Mala Emde. Her tireless efforts spanned organizing the venue, promoting the event, selling tickets, and even persuading Jarrett to perform after the promised piano went missing. John Magaro delivers an impressive performance as Jarrett, capturing the essence of his spontaneous, hour-long concert that resulted in the best-selling solo jazz album ever.

The negotiations for acquiring Köln 75 were conducted by Zeitgeist Films Co-President Emily Russo and Yana Georgieva from Bankside Films. The film, written and directed by Ido Fluk, was produced by Sol Bondy and Fred Burle, with executive producers including Oren Moverman and Lillian LaSalle. The production team expressed excitement about working with Zeitgeist Films and Kino Lorber, emphasizing the film’s potential to captivate audiences eager for high-quality cinema.

Audiences worldwide are anticipated to be enthralled by the story of how live music can transform not only those on stage but also behind the scenes. With its vibrant performances and engaging narrative, Köln 75 promises to inspire viewers to reconnect with their love for music, whether through records, concerts, or digital platforms. The film is set to resonate deeply with American audiences who cherish the iconic album yet remain unaware of its tumultuous origins.

Visa Challenges Hinder International Musicians' U.S. Tours
International musicians are reconsidering U.S. tours due to complex visa processes and increased immigration enforcement under the Trump administration. Canadian artist Bells Larsen canceled his U.S. tour after a policy update from USCIS recognized only two biological sexes, affecting his gender marker change. The labyrinthine visa process, involving high costs and unpredictable delays, further deters artists. Industry experts note that artists from Africa, Latin America, and the Arab world face additional scrutiny. Despite these challenges, some artists remain committed to performing in the U.S. to foster cross-cultural connections. However, fears of border searches and potential repercussions for political expressions lead many to self-censor or avoid touring in the U.S., impacting cultural exchange and artists' livelihoods.
