Embracing Vulnerability: A Musician's Journey to Healing and Triumph
A Stirring Performance on Late-Night Television
Lewis Capaldi recently delivered an impactful performance of his new single, “Survive,” on a popular late-night talk show. This appearance allowed him to not only showcase his latest work but also to engage in a heartfelt conversation with the host about his recent hiatus and his triumphant return to the music scene.
The Emotional Echoes of a Festival Comeback
The acclaimed artist presented an emotionally charged version of “Survive,” a song first unveiled at the renowned Glastonbury festival in June. Accompanied by a live band, this acoustic presentation signaled Capaldi's first new release in nearly two years. The composition thoughtfully addresses his personal struggles with mental health, particularly after navigating the challenges associated with Tourette's syndrome.
Reflecting on a Momentous Return to the Stage
During his interview, Capaldi reflected on the surprise performance at Glastonbury's iconic Pyramid Stage. He recalled his previous appearance at the festival in 2023, where he openly grappled with Tourette's during his set, leading to the cancellation of his subsequent tour dates to prioritize his health. He admitted that stepping back onto the Glastonbury stage was daunting. “Leading up to it, I felt immense trepidation; it seemed like a poor decision,” Capaldi revealed. “Yet, once I was out there, the experience was incredibly moving and wonderful, unfolding exactly as I had envisioned. It was, arguably, the most remarkable day of my life.”
A Humorous Outlook on Life's Milestones
With a touch of humor, he quipped, “That is, until I become a parent, I suppose. Then I'll probably still think Glastonbury was better.”
Advocacy for Mental Wellness and Future Horizons
Capaldi also spoke about his collaboration with an online therapy service, emphasizing how therapeutic support has been instrumental in his personal mental health journey. He recounted a significant on-stage episode in 2023 and articulated the steps he undertook to achieve greater stability. Now, poised for regular performances, Capaldi excitedly announced his upcoming UK and Australia arena tours, proudly noting, “You can try to secure tickets, but they’re already sold out!”
Anticipating New Musical Creations
Earlier in the month, Capaldi confirmed that he is actively working on a new EP. “I'm not sure about a full album yet, but an EP is definitely coming this year, and perhaps an album will follow next year,” he shared during a morning show interview. He indicated that his next single is set for release later this summer, with additional songs to follow in a continuous stream, "until the day I cease to exist.”
