A new coming-of-age musical drama, titled "Finding My Voice," is set to make its global debut at the Cannes Film Market. Directed by Arabella Burfitt-Dons, this film will be showcased to international buyers with a world premiere screening scheduled for May 15. The story revolves around a young girl navigating life's complexities after being separated from her family due to tragic circumstances. With an ensemble cast featuring Michelle Ryan, Nick Moran, and newcomer Anais Garness, the movie promises to deliver both emotional depth and musical charm.

This cinematic journey takes place in Essex and London, where audiences are introduced to a teenage protagonist dealing with profound personal challenges. After losing her baby brother because of her mother’s alcoholism, she finds herself placed in a children’s home that seeks to capitalize on her musical gifts. However, through resilience and encouragement from those around her, she rediscovers her aspirations for stardom. Composer Nick Southwood enhances the narrative with original scores, building upon his previous work in John Carney’s “Begin Again.”

Burfitt-Dons, known for directing the acclaimed “Grey Matter,” has shifted focus toward younger audiences with this project. She emphasizes that the film isn't merely about music but reflects the struggles of youth growing up under adverse conditions. Melanie’s path to fame is portrayed as arduous yet transformative.

Alan Byron from Screenbound expressed enthusiasm about representing such a compelling drama featuring talented performers and a promising director. He noted the growing demand for authentic storytelling aimed at teenagers, highlighting how “Finding My Voice” captures realism effectively. Producer Djonny Chen praised Screenbound's commitment to independent cinema, affirming their suitability as sales agents capable of elevating the film globally.

Screenbound, part of the Screenbound Entertainment Group since 2003, will participate in the Cannes Film Market along the Riviera. As members of IFTA and PACT, they bring extensive expertise to ensure the film reaches wide-ranging audiences. This collaboration aims not only to secure festival accolades but also to resonate deeply with youthful viewers worldwide.
